JACQUELINE'S BACKGROUND

Jacqueline's educational background started with  a degree in Behavioral Sciences.  Her strong desire to train dogs and other animals encouraged her to pursue additional degrees in Animal Behavioral Management, Exotic Animal Training and Management, and Wildlife Education.

Her interest in dog training started when she was a child. In addition to training dogs, Jacqueline took the next step to learning to train other animals.  She discovered that training dogs was so much easier after being exposed to so many other species in addition to formally studying Animal Behavior.

TRAINING APPROACH

The training approach Jacqueline uses for training dogs is the same approach she uses for training wild animals.  "You cannot put a pincher collar on or perform an alpha roll on a Bear."  All animal training requires understanding their motivation.  By using positive reinforcement, the animal will be motivated to do any behavior you ask and it will stay with them into the future.

DIFFERENCE IN DOG TRAINERS

Before hiring a dog trainer, find out the educational background in addition to the trainer's experience.  Unfortunately, anyone can call themselves a dog trainer without formal education in understanding animal behavior and psychology.  A dog trainer can teach your dog basic obedience, but a "behaviorist" has the educational background to understand the motivation behind behaviors and help your dog foster or cease certain behaviors.  This is far more complex and more valuable than just training a dog.

Beware of those trainers that mislead the public by calling themselves "behaviorists".  To earn the title of "behaviorist", the person must be certified by the Animal Behavior Society or be a Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist.  There are only a handful of "behaviorists" in southern California. SHELTER VOLUNTEER

As a volunteer for the East Valley Shelter in the San Fernando Valley, Jacqueline is one of the trainers in the program to train dogs that would otherwise be euthanized.  With her training, those dogs that keep getting passed by, suddenly capture the attention of potential adopters. On Sundays, she can be found at the mobile pet adoptions helping families pick the right dog for their home.

Jacqueline is also an Animal Emergency Responder. In case of an emergency, like fires or earthquakes, where pets need assistance in addition to the owners, LA City will call upon Jacqueline to come to the rescue.
